Today’s New Covenant nugget is from Philippians 3:13-14
…This one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Paul the apostle wrote this passage to the church in Philippi while he was in prison… he had been betrayed, lied about, criticized… then scourged and thrown into a filthy prison where he almost died due to his injuries. He was no doubt very tempted to be offended, to lose heart or to get bitter and just throw in the towel… instead, by grace, through faith he chose to FORGET all of those things and to focus on his ‘high calling’ in Christ.
Past failures, mistakes and hardships can be like quicksand… they can suck you into a hole and imprison you in a sad, heavy, prison of bondage, defeat, hurt and hopelessness. We have to shake off, walk away from and stop meditating on the things that are behind us and then prioritize and press toward what the Lord has called us to, in Jesus Name!
Shake off the past today, and as you partake in communion, commit yourself to pursuing your high calling in Christ, in Jesus Name!
