Called_to_serve.jpg

Today’s New Covenant nugget is from Matthew 20:25-27 (TPT)

Jesus, knowing their thoughts, called them to his side and said, “Kings and those with great authority in this world rule oppressively over their subjects, like tyrants. But this is not your calling. You will lead by a completely different model. The greatest one among you will live as the one who is called to serve others, because the greatest honor and authority is reserved for the one with the heart of a servant.”

Every calling from the Lord is to love, to give, to bless and to serve! Most worldly leadership is based on a totally different model, and sadly, many leaders in the body of Christ have adopted a ruler mentality when it comes to leading. Jesus was the greatest Servant of all, He fulfilled His calling as a servant, not a dictatorial ruler.

As you engage in your calling, think ‘team’ and think ‘serve’. As you serve those that the Lord brings into your life, serving will open the door to the hearts of those that you serve. Positional authority requires a title as well as the authority to use the ‘carrot and stick’ approach… a servant’s authority requires relationship, love, grace and a heart to serve and embrace others. No carrot or stick is needed for a servant leader… love, grace, bringing out the best in others and serving them will draw them in to follow and to help you in your calling.

Start serving the people in your life now, and as the Lord places you in your calling, those that you have served will lift up your hands and help you to do what you have been called to do… You are called to lead and to fulfil your calling by a completely different model than the world’s model. The greatest one among you will live as the one who is called to serve others, because the greatest honor and authority is reserved for the one with the heart of a servant… selah!

In His amazing love, Nick
