Today’s New Covenant nugget is from John 11:39
Jesus said, “Roll away the stone.” Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to Him, “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.”
Jesus wants to do mighty miracles through us today…
If we are going to raise the dead and do mighty exploits in His name, we have to realize, ‘Jesus is the miracle worker and not us’ – all Jesus is asking us to do is to ‘roll away the stone’.
When Jesus told Martha and those at the tomb of Lazarus to ‘roll away the stone’, instead of Martha doing what Jesus said in faith, she looked at the circumstances and said… “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days…” as if Jesus did not already know that…
All Jesus asked Martha to do was to ‘roll away the stone’ and to have faith in Him… instead she complicated things by looking at the impossible circumstances. We will never do mighty exploits in Jesus’ Name if we focus on the problem… the way miracles happen is… we only do what Jesus says, and then believe!
Jesus told the servants at the wedding, “fill the waterpots with water…” after making clay with His saliva and dirt, Jesus said to the blind man, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam”… so he went and washed, and came back seeing…. Jesus said to Martha, “roll away the stone” and He said to His disciples, “lay your hands on the sick” – all Jesus wants us to do is ‘what He says’… and then… have faith!
As you go through your day, listen for His voice… Jesus may say, “call this person and pray for them” – “send this person a text, saying, ‘I love you”’ - He may say, “send this person $50”… and as you do these simple things that you are easily able to do while having faith in Him, HE will do what you cannot do… Jesus will raise the dead if you will ‘roll away the stone!’
