Today’s devotion is from Galatians 5:16-17 (NIV)

So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.

The New Living Translation says, ‘The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.’

If our flesh nature causes so much trouble, then how do we overcome it so that we can walk in the Spirit?

The most straight forward answer is, ‘the one you feed will be the one that wins’ – in other words, if believers continually feed their flesh nature and starve their spirit nature, then their flesh will be in charge, but if believers starve their flesh and feed their spirits, then their spirits will be in charge and defeat the flesh.

Believers who continually feed their flesh and starve their spirit have spiritual malnutrition and are spiritually weak. A continual diet of TV, video games, movies, secular music, secular novels combined with giving our flesh whatever it demands leads to a very strong, commanding, dominating flesh nature.

A believer who starves the flesh and feeds the spirit will be spiritually strong and will dominate the flesh. A continual diet of the Word, including meditating on the Word, confessing the Word and sitting under the preaching of the Word feeds the spirit. Praying in the Holy Ghost edifies the spirit man, and spending time with the Lord imparts spiritual strength!

If your flesh is continually fed and your spirit is continually starved, you will not be able to yield to the Holy Spirit no matter how much you desire to do so – the opposite is also true… if your spirit is continually fed and your flesh is continually deprived and starved, you will not yield to the flesh and your spirit man will be in control under the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Many believers sadly continually make time for the flesh and fleshly desires while continually making excuses that they do not have time to feed their spirits – please do not see this as condemnation but rather as motivation to become spiritually nourished and strong!

By walking in the Spirit you will enter into all of the promises of God under the New Covenant and begin to live the abundant life that you and your loved one’s deserve!

Make this confession of faith - say this out loud with me…

“John 17:17 says that I am sanctified and set apart by Your truth - Your Word is truth - Your Word absolute truth – the Word is for me to walk in, to accept as final truth and for me to stand on, to declare by faith and for me to do – I am who the Word says that I am - I can do what the Word says I can do - I can be who the Word says I can be - Christ in me can do all things – I can do all things through Christ - I have absolute POWER over ALL the Work of the enemy – nothing shall by any means harm me – I have power to raise the dead – I have power to heal the sick – I have power to do the works of Jesus – I have total authority over all of the works of His hands in Jesus Name! – the power and the authority of the creator of all things is on the inside of me – when I speak by faith, I ALWAYS have what I say – As I speak the Word, the Father ALWAYS watches over it to perform it – The Father loves it when I expect Him to ALWAYS perform His EVERY Word! – I always expect the Father to bring to pass every word that I speak according to His Word – God is not a man that He should lie – His Word is literal, His Word is truth and His Word is final!”
