Today’s devotion is from Romans 8:1 (TPT)

So now the case is closed. There remains no accusing voice of condemnation against those who are joined in life-union with Jesus, the Anointed One.

There was a time where Paul’s flesh continually tried to condemn him through legalism – before he got saved he was a legalistic Pharisee and until his ‘Pharisee mindset’ got renewed, his legalistic attitude continually condemned him. Notice his mindset when you read Romans Chapter seven… ‘For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin. For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do.’ I, I, I, I

Legalism always focuses on ‘I’… It’s all about ‘your’ performance, ‘your’ lack, ‘your’ limitations and ‘you’ needing to do better.

In Romans 7:24 he reveals how that he became free from legalism and condemnation by changing his focus from ‘himself’ and ‘his works’ to ‘Jesus’ and ‘His works’… ‘What an agonizing situation I am in! So Who has the power to rescue this miserable man from the unwelcome intruder of sin and death? I give all my thanks to God, for His mighty power has finally provided a way out through our Lord Jesus, the Anointed One!’ – then he goes on to say in Romans 8:1, “So now the case is closed. There remains no accusing voice of condemnation against those who are joined in life-union with Jesus, the Anointed One.”

There is therefore no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus!

Like Paul, change your focus from ‘I, I, I’ and ‘Me, Me, Me’ to ‘Him, Him, Him!’ Self focus is rooted in pride and will always lead to legalistic bondage and condemnation – Focusing on Jesus and His finished work is rooted in humility and will always lead to freedom, acceptance and confidence in Jesus!
