Today’s devotion is from 2 Peter 1:2-4
Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
The New Testament Greek word for grace is “khä'rēs.” The words charismatic and charisma also come from the same Greek word khä'rēs…
The English definition of the word grace is ‘unmerited favor’ - New Covenant grace is indeed unmerited favor restored towards the Father through Christ, but New Covenant grace goes beyond that.
The ROOT meaning of the word khä'rēs in the context of Holy Scripture literally means to beinfused or enveloped with the Holy Spirit- it is in that state of being enveloped by the Holy Spirit that unmerited favor, miracle working power, supernatural ability, goodwill, joy, peace and spiritual gifts are imparted and received.
New Covenant GRACE is all about the person of GRACE, Jesus Christ. It is all about a RELATIONSHIP with the Lord, an EXPERIENCE of intimacy with God through the overshadowing, enveloping, infusing presence of the Holy Spirit.
This is why Peter said that GRACE gets MULTIPLIED to us through the KNOWLEDGE of Him. As we spend time at the throneroom of GRACE worshipping and developing an intimate relationship with the Lord, as we get to really know Jesus, we get enveloped by the power and presence of the Holy Spirit and GRACE gets multiplied to us through the knowledge of Him.
