Today’s devotion is from Hebrews 12:1-2

'Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…'

The Passion Translation says, ‘We look away from the natural realm and we fasten our gaze onto Jesus Who birthed faith within us and who leads us forward into faith’s perfection.’

The Amplified Bible, Classic Edition says, ‘Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus, Who is the Leader and the Source of our faith.’

As we keep our focus on Jesus, He will supernaturally enable us to run the race of life with endurance. One of the best ways that we can continually look to Jesus is when we meditate upon the Word. The Word of God is Jesus’ love letter to us… the gospels reveal Jesus walking among us and the book of Acts, the Pauline epistles and the rest of the New Testament are His words given to men by revelation through the Holy Spirit for His church. Even as you study the Old Testament, look for Jesus – see the shadows and types and the prophecies that point towards our wonderful New Covenant in Him. The staff in Moses’ hand that parted the sea was a type of the cross of Calvary that carries the power of the New Covenant, the bronze serpent on the stick that healed everyone that looked towards it was a symbol of Jesus becoming sin on the cross for our healing and the blood on the doorposts at Passover was a type of the powerful blood of Jesus and it’s protection from all the work of the enemy.

Ask the Holy Spirit to help you to continually look unto Jesus, and ask Him to open your spiritual eyes and to help you to build a relationship with Jesus. Meditate upon His Word, talk to Jesus, listen to Jesus and keep your eyes on Jesus and you will remain full of faith, overflowing with Joy, flooded with peace and sustained with life and strength!
