Today’s New Covenant nugget is from 2 Peter 3:9 (AMP)
The Lord does not delay [as though He were unable to act] and is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is [extraordinarily] patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
New Covenant repentance is powerful! The Greek word translated as repentance is ‘metánoia’ literally meaning to change your mind, to renew your mind, or to change the way that you think. Wrong thinking, or wrong believing can lead to failure, and devastation, even premature death – ‘there is a way that seems right to a man, but the end thereof is death!’ The Greek word used here for ‘perish’ literally means ‘destruction’ – a renewed mind will avoid destruction!
People that refuse to repent are those who hold onto their culture, their ways and their way of believing to their own detriment. New Covenant repentance needs to be a way of life – remaining open to yield to new thoughts, new ideas, and new ways of doing things.
As the Word continues to be sown into our lives, that Word will produce revelation knowledge – that revelation knowledge will change the way that we think, as well as the way that we do things… that is true New Covenant repentance. True repentance leads to life, blessing and greater success.
2 Peter 3:9 tells us that many of the promises of the Lord towards us require repentance (changing the way that we think and the way we believe) before manifesting in our lives. The Lord is not slow to bring His promises into manifestation in our lives, but He is patient, waiting for our repentance!
Why repent? Bottom line, an old wineskin cannot contain new wine for long! The promises of God cannot be applied with an unrenewed mind. We cannot process kingdom prosperity and success with unrenewed minds. As we repent and change our thinking, then we will be able to receive, implement and walk in God’s promises!
Like Paul, start by claiming to ‘know nothing’, except Christ and Him crucified – then spend time in the Word, time under the preaching of the Word, time studying the Word, time speaking the Word, putting on the mind of Christ – as you change the way that you think through New Covenant repentance, it will lead to you receiving and walking in the promises of God for you!
