Today’s New Covenant nugget is from 1 Chronicles 16:7-11
On that day David gave to Asaph and his fellow Levites this song of thanksgiving to the Lord “Oh, give thanks to the Lord! Call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples! Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; talk of all His wondrous works! Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord! Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His face evermore!”
David and Israel had just placed the ark of God in the tabernacle and offered their covenant sacrifices – a song of worship and thanksgiving arose from the people to God, giving thanks and proclaiming His wonderful deeds…
In the New Covenant, your body is the tabernacle and your spirit is the ark of the covenant… the Holy Spirit now lives in you as a born again believer… “Have you forgotten that your body is now the sacred temple of the Spirit of Holiness, Who lives in you? You don’t belong to yourself any longer, for the gift of God, the Holy Spirit, lives inside your sanctuary.” - 1 Corinthians 6:19 (TPT)
“Don’t you realize that together you have become God’s inner sanctuary and that the Spirit of God makes His permanent home in you?” - 1 Corinthians 3:16 (TPT)
Instead of us offering burnt sacrifices, Jesus became our sacrifice and paid the price for all of our sins, establishing a new and better covenant of grace, blessing, freedom and power in Him! Because of Jesus, the Holy Spirit now resides, not in a temple made with human hands, not in a wooden ark, overlaid with gold, but His dwelling place is on the inside of us – glory be to God!
If David and Israel had something to give thanks about, how much more do we need to be thankful? I know that today America is giving thanks to God for the great country of America – I too am very thankful for that! More than that, I am thankful for what Jesus has done, I am thankful for the Holy Spirit, and I am thankful for our awesome heavenly Father… He is the source of EVERYTHING good, including ‘everything’ good about America! (James 1:17)
Like David, sing a song of thanksgiving today, sing because of this great nation of America that the Lord has given to us, sing because the Spirit has made you His dwelling place, sing because you have been made alive in Christ and that because of Jesus, you and I now reign in life in Him… and sing because we serve such a good, good, loving Father – give thanks!
Blessings on you, Nick and Esther
