Today’s New Covenant nugget is from Colossians 1:25-28
I became a minister according to the stewardship from God which was given to me for you, to fulfill the word of God, the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is CHRIST IN YOU, THE HOPE OF GLORY. Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.
Allow me to paraphrase this powerful scripture… “God made me a servant to serve by His power and ability to fulfill the ministry of Jesus. I am about to reveal a mystery to you as a mature believer… a mystery that has been hidden for generations. If fact, God wants to make this mystery known to you as a New Covenant believer… here it is, ‘Jesus lives in you and wants to manifest Himself through you to bring hope to all that you encounter’. Jesus wants to PREACH, speak and minister through you, to bring every person into His perfection.”
When we read about ‘the Word of God’ we have to remember that the Holy Spirit was not specifically referring to New Covenant scripture. The only scripture that they had at the time was the Old Covenant Law… Jesus fulfilled the Law, and so these scriptures are not encouraging us to live according to the law, these scriptures are birthing and revealing the New Covenant. (I am not attempting to take any power or authority away from New Covenant scripture as it is today, but I am digging a little deeper to bring greater revelation to pass.)
When we read about ‘the Word of God’ it is specifically referring to a person, Jesus! It is absolutely not error to refer to New Covenant scripture when reading about ‘the Word of God’, as all scripture is God breathed and therefore all scriptures are the spoken words of Jesus. However passages of scripture like Colossians 1:25-28 are specifically referring to JESUS LIVING IN US, and Jesus wanting to minister through us.
The unveiled mystery is that Jesus is physically living in you through the Holy Spirit, and that in the New Covenant, Jesus desires to minister miracles, signs and worders THROUGH us. This ministry is what sets Christianity apart from dead religions. Not only is Jesus alive, He wants to minister through you and I!
It is one level of revelation to know that Jesus wants us to minister in His Name, it is a whole norther level when our eyes are opened to the fact that Jesus Himself is able to personally minister (speak, teach, preach, heal, do miracles, play musical instruments, lead, prophesy and operate) through us… not only does He WANT to… not only is He ABLE to, it is the New Covenant way! The New Covenant way is JESUS ‘channeling’ Himself through believers to do mighty, supernatural works!
I know that the word ‘channeling’ has many new age connotations, but don’t throw out the baby with the bathwater. God ‘channeling’ Himself through people is an age old biblical truth. God speaking through, ministering through, and operating through His people is in fact God’s way! The New Covenant not only makes that possible, our new creation born-again beings are specifically designed to be inhabited and to be fully yielded to the OPERATION of God through us.
The passion Translation says, “This mystery of Christ, embedded within us, becomes a heavenly treasure chest of hope filled with the riches of glory for His people.”
From now on when you read, ‘the Word of God’, know that it is firstly referring to Jesus personally, and secondly referring to New Covenant scripture… then translate in order to get a greater revelation… for example, Hebrews 4:12, “When the living, powerful Jesus operates through me, from within me, His anointing cuts through surface level things like a two-edged sword… Jesus in me, is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
In the New Covenant, when we read about ‘the Word of God’, it is specifically referring to JESUS in us, operating through us! After we get that revelation, we can enjoy the TEACHINGS and the TRUTH imparted through New Covenant Scripture! Selah!
