Today’s New Covenant nugget is from 1 Samuel 17:45
David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.”
Goliath had been taunting Saul and the armies of Israel for 40 days, calling them out to send a man to come and fight him… as David, a teenage shepherd boy came into the Israeli army camp, he heard Goliath shouting, “Why have you come out to line up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and you the servants of Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me. If he is able to fight with me and kill me, then we will be your servants. But if I prevail against him and kill him, then you shall be our servants and serve us, I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.”
David’s immediate response was, “who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?” David knew the power of the anointing on his covenant with God… he did not focus on his strength, size and ability vs the strength, size and ability of Goliath, he focused on his covenant, and the strength, the power and the supernatural ability provided in the anointing of his covenant compared to someone outside of the covenant.
When David came before Saul to get permission to fight Goliath, David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him; your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.” Then Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.” But David said to Saul, “Your servant used to keep his father’s sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it. Your servant has killed both lion and bear; AND THIS UNCIRCUMCISED PHILISTINE WILL BE LIKE ONE OF THEM, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.”
Again, David focused on his covenant, calling Goliath an uncircumcised Philistine (a Philistine without a covenant). David ignored Goliath’s strength, ability and size and focused on the power and the anointing on his covenant. David had already killed a lion and a bear with his bare hands under the power of his covenant anointing. When David fought Goliath, he did so by the power of his covenant anointing and he defeated Goliath the skilled giant very easily.
You and I have a far better covenant with far better promises than David had… the anointing on our New Covenant is infinitely far greater and more powerful than the anointing on David’s covenant, so, with our covenant and it’s anointing, if God is for us (and He is) then who, or what can be against us?
Do not focus on the severity of your situation, the size of your problem, the amount of your dept, or the lack of your personal ability… like David, focus on the power, the anointing and the ability within your covenant! Speak to the sickness, the disease, or the challenge just like David spoke to Goliath, “You uncircumcised Philistine, you come to me with a sword and a spear, but I come to you in the Name of the Lord!”
“Sickness, disease, cancer, pain, lack… you come to me in the natural with a natural prognosis and natural consequences, but I come to you in the NAME of JESUS and in the POWER and ANOINTING of my covenant in Christ… be removed and be cast into utter darkness, in Jesus Name”.
When you release the covenant anointing, when you stand upon your covenant anointing and do things by your covenant anointing, everything that comes against you will have the same fate that Goliath had… what the enemy intended to defeat David with, was turned around by the power of the covenant anointing and was used for David’s promotion… as with David, your test will become a testimony for the glory of God!
In His amazing love, Nick
