Today’s New Covenant nugget is from Exodus 4:2
So, the Lord said to Moses, “What is that in your hand?” He said, “A rod.”
MOSES WAS GIVEN THE DAUNTING TASK OF LEADING HIS NATION TO FREEDOM AT AGE 80.
After Moses’ encounter with God at the burning bush, the Lord told Moses that He was about to use him to free the nation of Israel from slavery and bring them into their promised land. At eighty years of age, Moses was overwhelmed by the assignment and did not feel that he had what it took to achieve this huge undertaking.
WHEN GOD GIVES US A TASK, IT IS ALWAYS IMPOSSIBLE IN THE NATURAL!
When the Lord assigns us to a task, He does so knowing that we are going to need His miracle working power and His supernatural ability to succeed!
Feeling inadequate and overwhelmed, Moses asked the Lord… when I get to Egypt, what do I tell Pharaoh? The Lord replied with a question… “Moses, what is in your hand?” He said, “a rod”. Notice… The Lord did not require about something that Moses did not have… He was interested in what Moses had in his hand.
Too many people focus on what they do not have and they look right past what they do have. Many do not see the value in what they already have… from God’s point of view, you HAVE what it takes, you HAVE enough, what you HAVE is good enough and what you HAVE qualifies you to be used in a powerful way!
A ROD, OR A STAFF WAS A VERY PERSONAL POSSESSION. USED TO DEFEND, TO RESCUE SHEEP AND TO KEEP A RECORD OF IMPORTANT EVENTS.
Moses HAD an old well used rod… it had many notches on it, recording his many adventures and encounters with lions, bears and other dangers… it represented his life in the wilderness… a far cry from the life that he once imagined he would enjoy in the palace. He held onto his rod as the one possession that he valued in his heart.
The Lord pointed to the rod and said, “And you shall take ‘THIS ROD’ in your hand, with which you shall do the signs.” (Exodus 4:17) You may not have much… you may not be the sharpest pencil in the bunch… you may not be the most talented, but what you have has value to the Lord… what you have together with what HE has is more than enough to do mighty exploits!
THE LORD WANTS TO USE WHAT YOU HAVE AND WHO YOU ARE… HE INTENDS TO PUT HIS SUPER ON YOUR NATURAL!
Exodus 4:20 - Then Moses took his wife and his sons and set them on a donkey, and he returned to the land of Egypt. And Moses took the rod of God in his hand.
MOSES ROD BECAME THE ROD OF GOD!
MOSES GAVE GOD HIS ROD AND THEN EVERY PART OF MOSES PROSPERED
MOSES’ ROD IS A TYPE AND SHADOW OF THE TITHE, RELEASED TO GOD IT BECOMES HOLY, AND IT MAKES EVERYTHING THAT YOU HAVE HOLY AND FILLED WITH POWER!
Romans 11:16 says, “If the firstfruit (the tithe) is holy, the lump is also holy; and if the root is holy, so are the branches.” In other words, the tithe is holy unto God, and because the tithe is holy, then the other 90% is made holy as well when you tithe! ‘Filthy lucre’ becomes anointed money when the tithe is released to God… want revival in your finances? Then release the tithe into the hands of the Lord Jesus just as Moses released his rod to God.
After Moses released his rod, it became ‘the rod of God!’ Moses must has related his story to his older brother, Aaron, because Aaron gave his rod to the Lord as well, and then the Lord used Moses and Aaron’s rods to do all of the miracles of Egypt, to part the red sea, to bring water out of a rock, to defeat the great army of Amalec and much, much more!
LITTLE BECOMES MUCH, WHEN YOU PLACE IT IN THE MASTERS HAND.
WHAT DO YOU HAVE IN YOUR HAND?
WHEN YOU LOOK AT IT, IT MAY LOOK LIKE THE UNFINISHED, RUGGED UGLY ROD OF MOSES, BUT IN GOD’S HANDS WHAT YOU HAVE CAN BECOME A CONDUIT FOR MIRACLES, SIGNS AND WONDERS!
JESUS FED FIVE THOUSAND WITH A LITTLE BOY’S LUNCH (JOHN 6)
The little boy did not have much… only five loaves and two fish, but what he had was enough! Jesus took what the little boy had and fed five thousand men (if you add the woman and children it may have been as many as twenty thousand). After all were fed there were twelve basketfuls left over! Little becomes much when you place it in the Master’s hands.
JESUS FED FOUR THOUSAND WITH SEVEN LOAVES AND A FEW FISH FROM THE CROWD (JOHN 8)
Jesus supernaturally fed the masses a second time… this time there were four thousand men, possibly eighteen thousand people, including woman and children… there were only seven loaves and a few fish in the whole crowd, but what they had was enough! Everybody was fed and there were seven basketfuls left over.
The one true story is about what a little boy had, the other is about what a large group of people had… both insufficient in the natural, but both ‘more than enough’ when released to Jesus! Want miracles in your life? Miracles will start happening as soon as you release what you have to Jesus!
WHAT DO YOU HAVE IN YOUR HAND?
WHAT YOU HAVE AND WHO YOU ARE IS ENOUGH WHEN WHAT YOU HAVE IS RELEASED TO JESUS!
WILL YOU CONSECRATE AND RELEASE WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU HAVE TO THE LORD? YOUR LITTLE WILL BECOME MUCH WHEN RELEASED TO JESUS!
CONFESSION
“Lord Jesus, I place everything I am and everything I have into your hands!
I ask you to put your super on my natural.
As I give you what I have, I know that you will turn my water into wine!
As you multiplied the little boy’s lunch, multiply what I give you and do mighty miracles through me, in your precious Name!”
In His amazing love, Nick
