Today’s New Covenant nugget is from Psalm 8:4-6

What is man that You are mindful of him, and the Son of man that You visit Him? For You have made Him a little lower than the God, and You have crowned Him with glory and honor. You have made Him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under His feet.

Psalm 8:4-6 is messianic… in other words is it a prophetic psalm about Jesus and His kingdom reign. The first part of verse four asks two questions, “What is man that You are mindful of him, and, (what is) the Son of man (Jesus) that You visit Him? Jesus is referred to as the Son of man eighty five times in the New Testament. Every man does not have dominion of all of the works of God’s hands, (only born again believers in Christ) - mankind lost total dominion over the earth to the devil because of Adam and Eve… after Adam and Eve’s fall the devil is referred to as the ‘ruler of this world’. (John 14:30)

Jesus overcame the devil, toppled his kingdom and took back dominion authority. (Matthew 28:18) Satan is no longer the ruler of the world, Jesus is!

After Jesus seized authority, He made us as believers kings and priests. (Revelation 1:6) For if by the one man’s sin death (the devil) reigned through the one, much more will those (in Christ) who receive an abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ. (Romans 5:17)

Through Christ, those who are in Christ, now have the restored dominion that Adam lost. In Christ, we as kings and priests in Jesus’ kingdom, now have the dominion over all of the work of His hands described in Psalm 8:4-6. In His Name we can now cast out devils, heal the sick and continue His works through delegated dominion power.

Many times, critics who teach against ‘dominionism’ misunderstand true dominion under the kingdom of God in the New Covenant. They think that we are teaching that believers have dominion over everything on earth in, period… we do not have dominion just because we are Christians, our dominion authority is ‘in Christ”, in His Name and under His authority and the authority of His Word, not in and of ourselves. We have delegated dominion authority, not relegated dominion authority!

I will continue this study in tomorrow’s devotion…
