The Passion Translation says, ‘You will sleep like a baby, safe and sound—your rest will be sweet and secure. You will not be subject to terror, for it will not terrify you. Nor will the disrespectful be able to push you aside, because God is your confidence in times of crisis, keeping your heart at rest in every situation.
The Lord wants to be your confidence… in other words, He wants you to rest and be confident in Him. We need to be fully persuaded and not have an ounce of doubt as we stand upon His promises. He will never leave us or forsake us, He is doing everything in His power to work everything together for the good for those who are called according to His purpose, He is continually watching over His Word to perform it on our behalf and His favor and grace goes before us wherever we go.
‘Sleeping like a baby’ is a metaphorical state of peace and confident trust… as we face an uncertain future, we may not know what exactly the future holds, but we need to be fully persuaded that the New Covenant in Christ is still in place, the Word still works, we still have everything pertaining to life and godliness, the Lord still supplies our every need according to His riches in Glory and we still get to go forth in peace and joy unspeakable - we need to continually remind ourselves of this reality!
