Today’s devotion is from Joshua 1:8
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
If we want to know how meditating on the Word makes a believer successful, we need to first understand scriptural meditation..
In short, scriptural meditation includes deep study, visualization and confession as well as receiving impartation.
#1. Scriptural meditation includes studying…
Taking the time to Study the Word in the context of the covenant that was in place at the time of the writing is very important. As believers we have to allow the Holy Spirit to lead us in our studies because we are studying a living, spiritual book with spiritual values, concepts and spiritual wisdom. The Word is unlike any other book and requires supernatural insight and guidance, just reading and studying the Word intellectually will not even scrape the surface. We have to study and meditate while speaking to the Holy Spirit and receiving illumination, understanding and insight from the Holy Spirit.
#2. Scriptural meditation includes visualization…
Scriptural visualization happens when the eyes of our understanding, or our spiritual eyes are enlightened. (Ephesians 1:16-19) For example, as our minds are being renewed that ‘by the stripes of Jesus we were already healed’, the Holy Spirit opens, or aluminates our spiritual eyes and we see ourselves healed… the lame see themselves walking and running… the blind see themselves reading and those in pain see themselves dancing pain free.
#3. Scriptural meditation includes confession…
As we meditate, we need to speak the Word that we are studying. For example, if you are meditating on the revelation that you can do all things through Christ, take time to say, “I can do all things through Christ Jesus, I have the wisdom that it takes to pass this interview, I can do this… I can do all things through Christ! Father, I thank you that according to your Word that I can do all things through Christ and therefore I can do this”. Speak out and confess what you are meditating on all day. Speaking the Word in faith brings life to the Word and releases it’s creative power.
#4. Scriptural meditation includes receiving impartation…
The bible says that the Word is alive and that it penetrates or goes into us (Hebrews 4:12) The Passion Translation says, “It will even penetrate to the very core of our being where soul and spirit, bone and marrow meet!” Like an injection needle penetrates our skin and injects medicine, the Word penetrates and imparts power, supernatural ability, anointing and everything that we need to succeed. Receiving impartation by grace through faith as we meditate is key.
As we meditate on the Word, it renews our minds, it transforms us into the image of Christ and it imparts supernatural ability and power into us. Take time throughout every day to meditate on the Word in a scriptural way, as you do you will have good success and you will make your way prosperous.
