Today’s devotion is from Philippians 4:11
"Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content"
Being content is something that Paul had to learn to do…
The Apostle Paul had to LEARN how to be at peace, satisfied and content in diverse circumstances. The Holy Spirit had to teach Paul HOW to be in a state of joy, peace and contentment whether he was in jail, whether he was free, whether he had a surplus of things or whether he had very little.
Being content regardless of circumstances is very important.
If circumstances can rob your peace or your joy… if circumstances can rock your faith or your confidence, and if circumstances can harden you or discourage you, then the devil has your number and he can create an atmosphere of defeat around you. Like Paul we need to ask the Holy Spirit to teach us the art of being content in whatever state we are in.
Philippians 4:8 is key to contentment…
Paul said, “Believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart].” (Philippians 4:8 AMP)
As a man thinks, so is he…
By the grace of God, take your thoughts captive and keep the life of God in your thought-life.
Discard thoughts of death and embrace life-thoughts. Then translate this into speaking words of life. The apostle Paul LEARNED how to live a satisfied, content life full of joy and peace regardless of his circumstances and because of that he became unshakable! Ask the Holy Spirit and He will equip you and impart the grace needed to do the same!
