Today’s devotion is from Hebrews 4:16
Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
There has been a lot of wonderful, life-changing teaching on grace these days, but this powerful scripture includes grace and mercy. Grace is receiving what you do not deserve (God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense) and MERCY is not receiving what you do deserve. Thank God that we can boldly come to His throne of grace and obtain mercy, so that we do not get what we deserve.
If any person got what they deserved, they would be in a heap of trouble. Every person has sinned, disobeyed, messed up and made many serious mistakes. According to God’s law we all have earned a one-way ticket straight to hell. Thank the Lord for Jesus! Thank You Jesus for rescuing me from the penalty that I deserve. Thank You Jesus for mercy.
People always reap what they sow. The law of seedtime and harvest never ceases (Genesis 8:22).
God is not mocked, whatever a man sows, that also will he reap (Galatians 6:7). This means that if you do something bad to others, you will always reap a bad harvest and get what is coming to you… what goes around comes around. I do however have some good news… under the New Covenant, Jesus bore our pain and took upon Himself our sentence and reaped our corrupt harvest for every bad seed that we have ever sown.
We get to boldly come to His throne of grace and obtain MERCY, (so that we do not get what we deserve and reap a corrupt harvest for the corrupt things we have sown). His mercy does not change the law of seedtime and harvest, it redirects the corrupt harvest to the cross of Calvary where it has already been dealt with. Mercy is ours in Christ, but we need to access it by grace through faith at the throne of grace.
Ephesians 2:1-7 (TPT)
His fullness fills you, even though you were once like corpses, dead in your sins and offenses. It wasn’t that long ago that you lived in the religion, customs, and values of this world, obeying the dark ruler of the earthly realm who fills the atmosphere with his authority, and works diligently in the hearts of those who are disobedient to the truth of God.
The corruption that was in us from birth was expressed through the deeds and desires of our self-life. We lived by whatever natural cravings and thoughts our minds dictated, living as rebellious children subject to God’s wrath like everyone else.
But God still loved us with such great love. He is so rich in compassion and mercy. Even when we were dead and doomed in our many sins, He united us into the very life of Christ and saved us by His wonderful grace! He raised us up with Christ the exalted One, and we ascended with Him into the glorious perfection and authority of the heavenly realm, for we are now co-seated as one with Christ!
Throughout the coming ages we will be the visible display of the infinite, limitless riches of His grace and kindness, which was showered upon us in Jesus Christ.
Go to the throne of grace regularly and worship the Lord. As you do, receive mercy and grace in your time of need. As you do, remember to let that same grace and mercy flow out of you toward others who have made mistakes and done you wrong – Selah
