Today’s devotion is from Matthew 9:36-38
But when Jesus saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”
The Passion Translation says, ‘When He saw the vast crowds of people, Jesus’ heart was deeply moved with compassion, because they seemed weary and helpless, like wandering sheep without a shepherd. He turned to his disciples and said, “The harvest is huge and ripe! But there are not enough harvesters to bring it all in.’
I have never seen the harvest more ripe. People are open to Jesus, to receive the love of Jesus and to receive deliverance from the bondage that they find themselves in. The problem is that the church has become way too passive, unless there is an outreach program many believers just do not reach out to the lost anymore. Is seems that most do not even bother to invite others to church… a survey concluded that 82% of unchurched people say they would go to church if invited but only 2% of church members invite people.
Pray for harvesters, more importantly, pray about being a harvester…
