Today’s devotion is from Romans 6:14
‘For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.’
I heard a believer make a comment… “I have a lust problem, and all men have a lust problem… I am just being honest about it…” He went on to say sarcastically, “If anyone knows how I can get rid of it, please let me know.” Like this poor soul, many believers think that they will always be drawn to certain sins and that they will always be weak in certain areas… let me assure you, Jesus’ blood is stronger than the bent of some people’s flesh! He has paid the price for every believer to be free from every sin… ‘Sin shall no longer have dominion over you!’
The power of the New Covenant of Grace through Christ has destroyed the power of the devil and the power of sin. As you put yourself under grace by faith, sin will no longer have dominion over you.
Most ‘sin issues’ that believers have are what the bible calls ‘works of the flesh’…
‘Now the practices of the sinful nature are [The works of the flesh are] clearly evident: they are sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality (total irresponsibility, lack of self-control), idolatry, sorcery, hostility, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions [that promote heresies], envy, drunkenness, riotous behavior, and other things like these.’ (Galatians 5:19-21)
Even though we are born again, we still have to deal with our flesh… the bible says to crucify the flesh. The devil attempts to get access to us through tempting our flesh nature. Even Jesus had to deal with this… (For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. - Hebrews 4:15)
Temptation does not need to lead to sin! When temptation comes, yield to grace and walk in the Spirit by faith and you will not sin. (If you walk in the Spirit, you will not give in to the desires of the flesh – Galatians 5:16) You do not have to be dominated and bullied by sin! New Covenant grace not only prevents sin from having dominion over us, it destroys the power of sin.
1 John 3:9 says that, ‘Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.’ Every born again believer who comes under the New Covenant of grace has the seed of God in them and that seed is an antidote to all sin. The simple truth is that no believer has to be dominated by sin.
Come under the grace of Jesus by faith, walk in the Spirit and receive power for holy living, in Jesus Name!
