Today’s devotion is from 2 Kings 4:25-26
And so she departed, and went to the man of God at Mount Carmel. So it was, when the man of God saw her afar off, that he said to his servant Gehazi, “Look, the Shunammite woman! Please run now to meet her, and say to her, ‘Is it well with you? Is it well with your husband? Is it well with the child?’ ” And she answered, “It is well.”
After the Shunammite woman’s son had died, she laid him on the prophet’s bed in the prophet’s chamber that she and her husband had built for Elisha… she then told her husband that she was going to see Elisha – when her husband asked about it she replied, “it is well”.
Then, when Elisha saw her coming, he said to his servant Gehazi, “Look, the Shunammite woman! Please run now to meet her, and say to her, ‘Is it well with you? Is it well with your husband? Is it well with the child?’ ” And she answered, “It is well.”
Why would she tell her husband as well as Elisha that ‘it is well’, when her son had died? She clearly had a revelation of faith…
She was calling those things that were not as though they were! The end result of her faith and her confession of faith was that her child was raised from the dead!
Many times things look pretty gloomy circumstantially… to be honest, circumstantially speaking, things are not looking too good in the light of C-19 spreading like wildfire… new strains mutating… in the light of all of the unrest, political instability, all of the hate and anger, and in the light of so many small businesses closing down… the list goes on and on…
Bad, negative news is all over social media… even believers are caught up in all of this. Announcing bad news is speaking death when what we all need is life!
The Shunammite woman was not lying to her husband or to Elisha, she was speaking life in faith… faith has a voice, and her faith was saying, “it is well!” Fear also has a voice, unbelief also has a voice, logic has a voice and the so called ‘realistic’ side of you has a voice as well. Sometimes we need to shut down the ‘other voices’ in our head, and let FAITH speak.
Elisha was a prophet of God and represented the Word of God in those days. Notice that the Shunammite woman made room for the Word in her house – and then, when she faced a crises, she ran to the Word and she only allowed faith to speak. We need to make room for the Word in our lives, and when we face a crises or a calamity, let faith speak and shut every other voice down – then, let the Word work! The devil as well as circumstances may say one thing, but the real questions are… what does God say in His Word, and what are you saying?
