The Greek word used here for ‘life’ is Zōḗ, literally meaning ‘The God kind of life – the absolute fullness of life’. Adam and Eve died spiritually the moment that they ate of the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil. By dying spiritually, they also lost the quality of life that they once had… they no longer lived a joy filled, peace filled, abundant life in Eden. God’s gift through Jesus is to give everyone who believes in Him everlasting, abundant, fullness of life… the God kind of life!
God’s intent in the gift that He gave...
Firstly, the Father’s intent in sending Jesus was to destroy the works of the devil. The Bible says in 1 John 3:8 ‘For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.’ Every work of the devil, including what the devil did to mankind in the garden has been destroyed through Christ Jesus!
Secondly the Father’s intent in sending Jesus was to give us life and life more abundantly. It says in John 10:10. ‘The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.’
The name ‘Eden’ means delight, pleasure, luxury and finery. Eden was a place, created by Jesus and set up for our enjoyment, for sweet fellowship with God, one another and animals. A place from where we could rule and reign with Christ.
Eden is restored in Christ Jesus!
Isaiah 51:3 says, ‘For the Lord will comfort Zion, He will comfort all her waste places; He will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the Lord; Joy and gladness will be found in it, thanksgiving and the voice of melody.’
Jesus is the cornerstone of Zion (1 Peter 2:6) and the New Covenant Zion is His church. This prophecy tells us that Jesus will make His church’s wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the Lord; Joy and gladness will be found in it, thanksgiving and the voice of melody.
It pleases God when we live the blessed life, a stress-free life, a joyful, peaceful, productive, happy life by grace through faith. This Zoe life is His gift to all who believe in Jesus!
