Today’s New Covenant nugget is from Romans 5:20-21
The law entered that sin might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
These days there are multiple books out coming against so-called ‘Hypergrace’. Let me come right out up front that I am a hypergrace teacher! Guilty as charged! Now before you send me an email to rebuke me, let me say right upfront… any teaching that teaches grace as a license to sin, or that holiness is not important, or that repentance is not needed because of grace is not teaching biblical, New Covenant grace, period!
There are no doubt some under the ‘Hyper-Grace’ banner that do not teach biblical grace, however, I encourage you to be slow to judge as many sound biblical teachers are being wrongly judged and accused of things that they do not teach.
Let’s look at scripture together and discover together what biblical grace is and what it is not…
In Romans 5:20 it says, “where sin abounded, grace abounded much more…”
There are two different Greek words in this sentence that are both translated ‘abounded’… ‘But where sin abounded (pleonázō) literally ‘increased’, GRACE abounded (hyperperisseúō). Two Greek words joined together, ‘hypér and perisseúō… literally ‘Hyper abounded’ or ‘super abounded’ much, much more.’ So, Paul the apostle talks about GRACE HYPER ABOUNDING… or, HYPER GRACE.
Again, Paul the apostle does not teach grace as a license to sin, in fact he teaches the opposite… in Romans 6:14 he teaches that “Sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.” The anointing on GRACE destroys temptation as well as the power of sin… it sets us FREE from sin’s dominion!
So… Paul and the other apostles did in fact teach ‘hypergrace’, but not as a watered down anything goes gospel, but instead as the power and pathway to true holiness with total dominion over sin. I recommend that you consider calling unbiblical grace teachings just that, unbiblical grace teachings, not ‘hypergrace’. This is more than semantics, death and life are in the power of the tongue.
The Greek word Hypér (ὑπέρ) literally means over, beyond and more than enough…
The grace of God is over the top, beyond what we will ever need, more than enough and overflowing. To define biblical grace as anything but ‘Hyper Grace’ is simply not scriptural.
The same Greek word is used in 2 Corinthians 7:4 referring to HYPER-JOY or abundant, super joy. In 2 Thessalonians 1:4 The same Greek word ‘Hypér’ is used to describe faith and patience referring to HYPER-FAITH and HYPER-PATIENCE or super, unflinching, overflowing, radical faith and patience… so, scripturally speaking we should all be ‘Hyper-Grace, Hyper-Joy, Hyper-Faith, Hyper-Patient’ and hyper everything that the Lord has for us in the New Covenant.
I may as well add… Hyper-Love, Hyper-Prosperity, Hyper-anointing and several other ‘hyper’s’ to the list, lol.
It takes hyper grace to destroy sin and the power of sin…
I personally do not know any teacher who teaches grace as a license to sin, or so called ‘greasy grace’ that encourages lascivious, unholy lifestyles… I am sure that there are many deceived, even perverted so called Christian teachers out there, I just do not know any of them. I do know several godly men and woman who have been wrongly ‘labeled’ by many who have not bothered to read their books or to listen to their teachings. I am tempted to defend these anointed grace teachers by name, but the Holy Spirit is not leading me that way, instead He is leading me to expose genuine biblical hypergrace as a cornerstone to the New Covenant.
Biblical, New Covenant hypergrace contains power over sin and is the only way to true holiness…
Why else would the Holy Spirit tell us in scripture that “Where sin abounds, that hyper, overflowing, more than enough grace abounds more”. Surely the Holy Spirit is not giving believers a license to sin! Absolutely not! He is giving the believers the answer to overcoming sin.
Again, Romans 6:14 says that sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace…
Grace destroys the dominating, enslaving power of sin in a believer’s life, it is power packed and overflowing with sin destroying anointing and power! The Law, or legalism causes sin to abound. The grace of God leads to repentance, holiness and freedom from sin… legalistic control leads to rebellion and increase in sin.
Romans 3:23-24 (NLT) says, “Everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in His GRACE, freely makes us right in His sight. [By GRACE we have been declared righteous] He did this through Christ Jesus when He freed us from the penalty for our sins.”
True scriptural Hyper-Grace destroys sin and the power of sin, Hyper-Grace leads to Holiness and Hyper-Grace is the pathway to God’s overflowing, more than enough, super abundant blessings in the life of every believer… no wonder the devil is attacking this biblical teaching.
So, the next time someone accuses you of being “Hyper-Grace’ or of going to a ‘Hyper-Grace’ church, take it as a complement and own it with an attitude of gratitude! Thank You Jesus for Your indescribable, undeserved, unmerited, powerful, overflowing, hyper-grace!
In His amazing love, Nick
