Today’s New Covenant nugget is from John 10:27

My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

In today’s devotion we continue to receive revelation and understanding on hearing the voice of God and being led by the Spirit. If you have not read yesterday’s devotion, please do so before reading this one…

The two primary ways that the Lord speaks to us is through His Word and through the Holy Spirit to our spirits. Let’s talk about how the Lord speaks through His Word…

Jesus speaks directly through His Word as well as speaking to us through the Holy Spirit as we are studying, or sitting under the anointed preaching and teaching of the Word. As you meditate upon His Word in study, or as you sit under the teaching and preaching of the Word, the Word comes alive and starts communicating to your spirit man. Sometimes you will be prompted to cross reference another portion of scripture, sometimes you will receive a fresh revelation on an old scripture, and sometimes a question that you had will be answered in clarity.

As you study and sit under the Word, Jesus will talk to you… He will not only teach you, He will communicate to you in a powerful way, and when Jesus speaks to you through His Word, you KNOW that it is HIM speaking. The powerful thing about Jesus speaking through His Word is that FAITH comes with the communication (faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word).

Some believers want to only hear directly from Jesus and are not willing to spend time in the Word… Jesus will not bypass His Word as His primary way of speaking to any believer.

If someone says, “the lord spoke to me in a vision, or the Lord told me this, or that” always ask, “is what the person is saying scriptural according to the New Covenant? Is what they are saying in the Word or confirmed by the Word.” Even if Jesus walks up to me personally and reveals something to me, I will respectfully ask, “Jesus, where is that in your Word, how is what you are showing me according to your New Covenant?” If it is truly Jesus, and not an evil spirit that is pretending to be Jesus, He will be very blessed at me requiring Him to prove His authenticity by showing me what He is saying and revealing in His Word. Jesus places His Word above all else, even above His Name (Psalm 138:2)

In His amazing love, Nick
