IN THIS PASSAGE TWO DIFFERENT GREEK WORDS ARE TRANSLATED ‘INTERCESSION’
#1. “He makes ‘intersession’ (hyperentynchánō) for us with groanings”
Literally meaning, ‘the Holy Spirit hyper-intercedes, or supernaturally stands in the gap’.
#2. He makes ‘intercession’ (entynchánō) for the saints, literally meaning ‘To shed light upon something, or to enlighten’
The Greek word translated as ‘groanings is, ‘stenagmos’, literally ‘unutterable gushings of the heart - it is a birthing sound that gives birth to our promised future’
Most people focus on verse 28 where all things work together for the good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose, but it is what happens in verse 26 and 27 that causes all things to work together for the good.
The Holy spirit Himself makes intersession for us…
This scripture is not talking about the Holy Spirit praying through us as we pray in tongues, in fact this passage is not about us praying at all, it says. “For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us” – so, in times of WEAKNESS, in times of questioning, in times when we do not even know what to pray, ‘the Holy Spirit Himself’ hyper-intercedes over us and for us. This passage gives revelation on what God does through the Holy Spirit when we are in trouble, it is not about what we do, or even what He does through us.
The Holy Ghost literally hyper-intercedes and brings revelation and brings to pass the will of God in our lives and turns things around for our good in times of trouble!
Let’s talk about the groanings… ‘groanings’ is really not a good translation – a better translation is ‘unutterable gushings from the heart’. The Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with unutterable gushings from His heart. The Greek word is linked to a word that describes a mother giving birth… if you take away the pain (which was given because of Eve’s disobedience) and if you only have the birthing experience and the excitement of it, then that close the sound that we are talking about.
The Holy Ghost intersession is a holy birthing room, a birthing room where He calls those things that be not as though they are over your life, where He prophesies your future, where He pulls you up out of your limitations into His unlimited supernatural miracle walk which you have been pre-destined to walk in. In this holy birthing room the Holy Spirit shouts an unspeakable sound, a sound filled with joy, excitement, glory and anointing – as He makes this sound, this Holy Ghost birthing sound, things begin to be birthed supernaturally in your life!
Zephaniah 3:17 gives us a picture of what Romans 8:26-27 is describing… ‘The Lord your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.’
In this Holy Ghost birthing room of intercession, the Holy Spirit rejoices over you with gladness, quiets you with His love and rejoices over you with singing. He dances over you rejoicing and singing and making this unutterable sound that gushes from His Heart. This happens every time that you are in trouble, in lack, or in a weak place.
This Holy Ghost intervention turns everything around, causes the spirits of darkness to flee and births your future as a king and a priest in Christ.
Romans 8:28 describes the result of this Holy Ghost intervention…
‘And we know (because of the Holy Spirit intercession) that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.’ As you receive a revelation of this, the next time that you find yourself in a place where you don’t even know what to pray, visualize a Holy Ghost birthing room all around you… when you do, you will count it all joy when you face various trials. You will KNOW and be fully persuaded that because of the Holy Spirit, because of His intersession over you that His prayers over you are working everything for your good.
POSITION YOURSELF UNDER HIS INTERSESSION
Get in the presence of the Lord and as you worship, be still, rest and receive His intervention and pray this simple prayer, “Holy Spirit, I come into Your presence, I yield to Your work on the inside of me and around me, in Jesus Name!”
