Today’s devotion is from Ephesians 6:17-18
Take the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God;praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.
Praying the Word is the sword of the Spirit…
Take the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God;praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit…Most people disconnect ‘taking up the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God’, from 'praying always…’ however, this is one sentence, and one thought, not two. When we take the Word of God and begin to fervently declare it by faith in prayer and intersession, it becomes a sword in the hands of the Holy Spirit.
Supplication in the New Covenant is asking for, or requiring something. The Lord wants us to take the Word according to our covenant in Christ, to declare it by faith and to require what it says to become a reality in our lives and in the lives of others. When we pray like that, the Holy Spirit takes our Word of faith prayers up like a sword and goes to work. He becomes the enforcer of His Word coming out of our mouths… faith declarations and supplications. God watches over His Word [that we have declared in prayer by faith] to perform it. We speak the Word and He brings it to pass.
Ephesians 6:17-18 applies to all prayer, but in context it is focusing on prayer and intercession for other believers…
When you intercede for others, take up the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God… as you do, your ‘Word prayers’ become a sword in the hands of God on behalf of other believers. You may not be aware of it, but many times when you are having a powerful day, somebody is praying for you. As you are going from victory to victory and seeing one miracle after another, someone is standing in the gap for you…. they are declaring the Word over your life by faith, and the Spirit is taking that Word and enforcing it. Like I said, unless you are very discerning, you may never even realize it, but many of our breakthroughs happen because of the faithful intersession of others. The intercession of others changes your story. Return the favor and change the story of others… from overwhelmed to energized, from fearful to courageous, from full of doubt, to full of faith, from hopeless to full of hope, from defeated to victorious and from powerless to powerful.
