Today’s devotion is from Proverbs 16:24 TPT
Nothing is more appealing than speaking beautiful, life-giving words. For they release sweetness to our souls and inner healing to our spirits.
Your words to others really matter…
Even when correction is needed, make sure that your words are life-giving words, not words of death. Life giving, loving, grace-filled words that build will produce sweetness to people’s souls and inner healing to their spirits. Life –giving words bring out the best in people and do more to bring about positive change than words of condemnation and disapproval. Harsh, critical, judgmental words bring out the worst in people.
Let me give you an example, instead of saying, “For a smart person, you are sure acting dumb”, you could say, “You are such a smart, gifted person, I am not going to judge you on this one mistake”, or you could also say, “I believe in you and I speak life over you, I have faith that you will walk in wisdom from now on”. Words of life bring out the best, they are words of affirmation and words that build, not break.
I pray that all of you will be led by the Holy Spirit as you speak. The bible says, ‘Never let ugly or hateful words come from your mouth, but instead let your words become beautiful gifts that encourage others; do this by speaking words of grace to help them.’ (Ephesians 4:29 - TPT) Another translation says, ‘Speak words that are good for necessary edification, that they may impart grace to the hearers’.
I always try to be slow to speak and quick to listen. I ask the Lord to impart insight, empathy and compassion. When I do speak, I try to make sure that every word that comes out of my mouth is life-giving and full of love and grace. If I mistakenly say anything that is not life-giving, I am quick to ask forgiveness. Have a blessed weekend everybody you are fearfully and wonderfully made and you have an amazing future as you continue to grow in the Lord - Selah
