Today’s devotion is from Isaiah 37:36
Then the angel of the Lord went out, and killed in the camp of the Assyrians one hundred and eighty-five thousand; and when the people arose early in the morning, there were the corpses—all dead.
The bible calls God the Lord of hosts, or the Lord of Angel armies…
His angels are at His command to protect, to deliver and to enforce. Angels have been assigned by the Lord to watch over each and every believer. - For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. To protect and defend and guard you in all your ways (Psalm 91:11)
Hebrews 1:14 says that all the angels are ministering spirits sent out [by God] to serve (accompany, protect) those who inherit salvation.
King Hezekiah was told not to let his God deceive him into thinking that the Lord would help him to defeat the Assyrian army. He was sent a letter reminding him of how many great armies the Assyrians had slaughtered and that none of their gods could help them against the might of the Assyrian army.
The devil still warns believers today that they have no chance against his attacks of poverty, sickness and spiritual warfare. The devil does not want believers to put their trust in their God of angel armies, but rather to just accept defeat or to take matters into their own hands. BUT… the same God Who delivered Hezekiah will deliver you as you put your trust in Him.
When Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it; he went up to the house of the Lord, and spread it before the Lord and prayed “O Lord of angel armies, God of Israel, the One who dwells between the cherubim, You are God, You alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth. Incline Your ear, O Lord, and hear; open Your eyes, O Lord, and see; and hear all the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to reproach the living God. Truly, Lord, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations and their lands, and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were not gods, but the work of men’s hands—wood and stone. Therefore they destroyed them. Now therefore, O Lord our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You are the Lord, You alone.”
The Lord said, “I will defend this city, to save it for My own sake and for My servant David’s sake.” Then the angel of the Lord went out, and killed in the camp of the Assyrians one hundred and eighty-five thousand; and when people arose early in the morning, there were the corpses—all dead. Soon after, as Sennacherib, king of Assyria was worshiping Nisroch his god, his own sons struck him down and killed him with the sword.
Hezekiah was very wise not to try to take on the Assyrians in his own strength, but to ask the Lord to fight the battle for him. If he had tried to defeat the Assyrian army with his army, it would have been a disaster. There are times when we find ourselves outnumbered and outdone by circumstances, situations or by people out to hurt us and it is very important to recognize our own limitations in the natural. It is not your job to defeat and to overcome every battle… it is your job to put your trust in the Lord. He will fight for you, and when He does, you always win.
You are God’s anointed, and if the devil or people come against you, as you put your trust in your God of angel armies, He will always cause you to triumph through Christ. He will protect you and vindicate you and nothing shall by any means harm you. It only took one angel to defeat one hundred and eighty five thousand soldiers… you have several angels assigned to you, so, do not fear! Nothing shall by any means harm you as you put your trust in your God of Angel armies in Jesus Name - Selah
