Consecration.jpg

Today’s New Covenant nugget comes from Psalm 16:5-6 (TPT)

Lord, I have chosen You alone as my inheritance. You are my prize, my pleasure, and my portion. I leave my destiny and its timing in Your hands. Your pleasant path leads me to pleasant places. I’m overwhelmed by the privileges that come with following you, for you have given me the best!

No matter what you are facing today, the Lord has a destiny for you, and it’s amazing…

In Psalm 16:5-6 David prayed a prayer of consecration to the Lord… “I leave my destiny and its timing in Your hands.“ Samuel the prophet had ordained him as king over Israel and instead of being enthroned, David suffered many years of hiding, fleeing and being treated like a criminal… but instead of giving up on his destiny, he placed his destiny in God’s hands.

A prayer of consecration is a prayer that submits to the will of God… it is a prayer of surrender to the Lord, placing absolute trust in His timing, His way and His ability to bring your destiny to pass.

The prayer of faith is different from the prayer of consecration in that when you pray the prayer of faith, you do not pray, “Thy will be done”, you pray, “I thank You Father that I am the healed of the Lord”. The prayer of faith is praying the known will of God concerning His promises in His Word with absolute faith, whereas the prayer of consecration is a prayer that a believer prays when they do not know the will of God concerning timing, direction, or how it will come to pass.

The prayer of consecration is also when you know what God’s will is, but your flesh is resistant to what you know to be the will of God, so you pray a prayer that puts your flesh in submission to God.

David’s prayer was such a beautiful, powerful prayer…

“Lord, I have chosen You alone as my inheritance. You are my prize, my pleasure, and my portion. I leave my destiny and its timing in Your hands. Your pleasant path leads me to pleasant places. I’m overwhelmed by the privileges that come with following You, for You have given me the best!

David wisely saw the LORD as his inheritance, his prize and his portion, and not his goals in life… in other words, you look beyond what you are believing God for, to God Himself as your portion. When you have the Lord, you have everything!

In His timing, the Lord will lead you step by step into all that He has for you! By praying the prayer of dedication and consecration you are placing yourself in total rest in the Lord concerning things to come.

David’s time eventually came, and he was arguably the greatest king who ever lived, his destiny was built into him and the only thing that could stop him would have been if he looked beyond the Lord to his destiny, and tried to bring his future to pass by the work of his own hands… instead, he looked beyond his destiny to the Lord, and then the Lord supernaturally brought everything He promised to pass.

Look beyond what you are hoping for today to the God of hope… pray the prayer of consecration with me today,

“Lord, I have chosen You alone as my inheritance. You are my prize, my pleasure, and my portion. I leave my destiny and its timing in Your hands. Your pleasant path leads me to pleasant places. I’m overwhelmed by the privileges that come with following You, for You have given me the best, amen!”

Blessings on you, Nick
