Today’s devotion is from James 3:2 (TPT)
‘We all fail in many areas, but especially with our words. Yet if we’re able to bridle [direct] the words we say we are powerful enough to control ourselves in every way, and that means our character is mature and fully developed.’
When we understand that as humans, we are created in the image of God and that we are designed to operate the way that God operates and place value on the things God places value on, we need to get a revelation on the importance and the power of words.
GOD MAGNIFIES HIS WORD ABOVE HIS NAME…
The Bible says in Psalm 138:2, ‘I will worship toward Your holy temple, and praise Your name for Your lovingkindness and Your truth; for You have magnified Your word above all Your names.’
God never lies, God tells us that we can know His integrity by His words, God’s words are always just, right, full of life and full of creative power. God never uses words loosely or in jest. God places value on His words above all else, we would be wise to do the same!
THE DIRECTION OF YOUR WHOLE LIFE IS STEERED BY YOUR WORDS…
James 3:3-5 (TPT)
‘Horses have bits and bridles in their mouths so that we can control and guide their large body. And the same with mighty ships, though they are massive and driven by fierce winds, yet they are steered by a tiny rudder at the direction of the person at the helm. And so the tongue is a small part of the body yet it carries great power! Just think of how a small flame can set a huge forest ablaze.’
Your words are the rudder that steers the entire direction of your life! Your words determine your direction. When our words line up with the Word of God, those words will direct our entire lives onto God’s path for our lives… a path of blessing, joy, peace, health, success and prosperity. If we continually speak words of death, then in spite of our wonderful New Covenant in Christ, we give place to the devil to bring fear, sickness, sorrow, depression and defeat our way. Friend, if you cannot say something that is in line with Philippians 4:8. Then do not say anything at all. When we speak words of life and faith, we steer our life, our relationships, our family, our finances and all of our endeavors under the shadow of the Almighty where blessings freely flow.
