Today's devotion is from Matthew 21:7-11

They brought the donkey and the colt, laid their clothes on them, and set Him on them. And a very great multitude spread their clothes on the road; others cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road. Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: “Hosanna to the Son of David! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ Hosanna in the highest!”

Jesus triumphal entry into Jerusalem was on Sunday or Monday, and He was crucified by Wednesday, the 1st day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread on the “High Sabbath.”

It is interesting that the same people [with a few exceptions] that cried out “Hosanna to the Son of David! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ Hosanna in the highest!” 2-3 days later raised their voices and cried out, “Crucify Him, Crucify Him!”

The people wanted an authoritarian 'RULER KING' and that is who they thought Jesus was at the time of the triumphal entry, but as soon as they discovered that Jesus came not to be served, but to serve as a servant leader and as a servant King Who serves His kingdom, and that He was not going to lead a revolt to overthrow the Roman empire, they wanted Him dead.

Jesus was very clear in Matthew 20:25-28... 'Jesus called them to Himself and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant, whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave — just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”'

The New Covenant, kingdom way of leading is through serving... serving people under the leadership of Jesus as led by the Holy Spirit.

As we follow Jesus' example of servant leadership through the grace and ability of God, our leadership will not only influence, it will heal, restore and bless all of those that follow us
